Maya

A Choice For Herself

Twelve years ago today, we arrived in the town some ways from our home. We visited a woman who had given birth to a girl named Maya, a child who, at the time, was unwanted by her mother. For three months, we spent time with her mother, encouraging her to love this little girl.

As the girl grew up, she would occasionally attend church; however, this did not mean she had accepted Jesus into her heart, she simply went because she was taken there. Like many teenagers, she began to stray.

About two months ago, her mother arrived at a youth service with Maya and asked us to speak with the teenager. She had many questions, all of which we answered. We shared the love of God with her, explaining that He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins, that He is our one and only sufficient Savior.

She accepted Jesus into her heart and prayed the prayer of faith. She was overjoyed, and upon learning that a baptism was going to take place, she asked, “Can I be baptized? I want to do it.” And so, on Sunday, September 28th, she went down into the waters, dying to the world to live for Christ.

Sometimes we assume that if teenagers or young people attend church, they are already saved or have already accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior. But that is not necessarily the case. We must guide them to pray the prayer of faith.
