It was an ordinary afternoon in town when I met a man whose story I will never forget. I was at my stand, busy as usual, when he approached me. He looked tired, worn out and unsure of himself. There was a heaviness in his eyes that spoke louder than his words.

He politely greeted me and explained that he had just been released from prison. He told me he had been in prison for one year and some months after stealing. Now that he was out, he was trying to reconnect with his family. He did not have a phone and kindly asked if he could use mine to call his relatives.

Before handing over my phone, I felt something stirring in my heart. I asked him gently if he knew Jesus. He said no. In that moment I knew this meeting was not a coincidence. I began to tell him about the love of God. That no matter what we have done God’s mercy is greater than our mistakes. I shared that we have all sinned and fallen short (Romans 3:23), but God still loves us deeply (John 3:16). I explained that when we confess our sins, He is faithful to forgive us (1 John 1:9).

As I spoke, I could see his expression change. He listened carefully, almost like someone who had been waiting to hear these words for a long time. Right there in town at my stand we prayed together. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and personal Savior. It was a simple prayer, but it carried eternal significance.

After we prayed, I gave him my phone. He managed to speak to his relative and reconnect with his family. When he handed the phone back to me, there was gratitude in his voice and hope in his heart.

A week later, he returned to my stand. This time, he looked different, not just physically but spiritually. He thanked me sincerely for helping him that day. He said he was grateful not only for the phone call but for helping him give his life to God. He asked if he could start coming to my church. I was happy, but since he lives far from my church, I recommended a Bible-believing church near his home so that he could grow consistently and be supported in his new journey of faith.

I reminded him that in Christ we become a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17) and encouraged him to trust in the Lord with all his heart (Proverbs 3:5). He told me he is working on himself and is determined not to make the same mistakes again. He wants to build a better life and walk in the right path.
