In a small village lived a man named Edgar. For many years, he walked closely with a witch doctor. Whenever people were sick, had problems in their homes, or feared evil spirits, Edgar would go with the witch doctor to perform rituals. He believed that the witch doctor had power to control spirits and solve people’s problems. 

At first, Edgar felt important. People respected him because they feared the witch doctor. But inside his heart, he was not at peace. At night, he had frightening dreams, and he lived in constant fear of spirits and curses. 

One day we had a funeral of our dear sister who died near his village. Mr. Edgar also came to attend the funeral service. I preached about the power of Jesus Christ, how Jesus defeated sin, Satan, and all powers of darkness on the cross. I read from the Gospel of Luke 10:19, “Behold I give you authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy.” Edgar was surprised. He had never heard that there was a power greater than the spirits he feared. I explained how Jesus Christ sets people free from darkness. 

At the end of the service, I invited anyone who wanted freedom to come forward and give their life to Christ. Edgar felt something moving in his heart. Slowly he walked to the front. With tears in his eyes, he confessed his sins and surrendered his life to Jesus. 

That day, he burned the charms and items he used while working with the witch doctor. From that day, his life changed. The fear that once controlled him disappeared, and he found peace in Christ. 

Instead of walking with a witch doctor, Edgar began walking with Jesus. Soon, he started telling others in the village how Christ had delivered him from darkness into light. And many people came to know the saving power of Jesus through his testimony. 

Lesson: No matter how deep someone is in darkness, the power of Jesus Christ can set them free.
