Taste & See The Lord Is Good
It was a late afternoon on a weekend. I was working on my assignment on the computer. Since the formatting wasn’t very good, I went to ask a girl I knew to help me fix it.
After we finished, I sat down and typed out Psalm 23: “The LORD is my Shepherd; I shall not be in want…” The girl sitting next to me saw the two lines I typed and suddenly exclaimed: “This looks like a poem, doesn’t it, auntie?” I was delighted that someone showed interest in God’s Word.
I replied immediately: “Yes, that’s right, dear. This is a poem written by a king of Israel. It has been known throughout the world for many centuries.” A new thought suddenly came to my mind, so I gently asked her: “Have you ever experienced a moment of being completely satisfied?” “No, never,” she said with a laugh. “Have you ever felt so free and fulfilled that you could shout, ‘Oh! This is wonderful! I’m so full—I don’t need anything else!’? Has that ever happened to you?” “No, auntie… it’s not easy to feel that way.”
“But would you like to feel that kind of satisfaction?”
“Yes. Definitely, auntie.”
“If you want that, I can show you a secret.”
And with that, I began to share the Gospel with her. I explained: “A person can truly be satisfied only when they are in Christ Jesus.” Still in the book of Psalms, I shared Psalm 34:8:
“Taste and see that the LORD is good!”
I gave her an illustration: “Imagine I place an orange in front of you and say: ‘This orange is very sweet.’ At that moment, you can only imagine sweetness in your mind. But if you take a bite of the orange, you no longer need imagination—you experience the sweetness for yourself. Isn’t that right?”
“In the same way,” I continued, “when I tell you about Jesus, you can imagine what it might feel like—to be satisfied, to be loved by God, to receive eternal life. But you will never experience that satisfaction unless you truly invite Jesus Christ into your heart to be your Lord and the Master of your life.”
I shared a few more Scripture passages about God’s promises for those who believe in Him. The Word of God touched her heart. She shyly whispered: “Auntie… I want that.” I shared and explained a bit more, then guided her in a prayer to receive Christ. Amen. Praise the Lord.
What a blessed weekend afternoon. I truly thank God. And I thank the RSI mission agency for allowing me to play a small part in your great ministry. May the Lord pour out even more grace upon all the work you do in serving Him. Amen!
